Superphones count to hit 100 million by 2015
The number of superphones worldwide is predicted to increase from 15 million this year to 100 million by 2015, according to market intelligence expert Strategy Analytics.
Strategy Analytics analyst Alex Spektor attributed the 550 percent growth to the aggressive campaign of major handset makers Samsung, HTC, Android, Nvidia and Texas Instruments in developed markets.
Superphones are distinguished by their above 4-inch displays and processors greater than 1 GHz. Examples are the Samsung Galaxy S and HTC Evo 4G.
Meanwhile, Strategy Analytics forecasted global handset sales to grow to 1.3 billion units in 2010. It said annual growth of smartphones will be 20 percent over the next six years, while feature phones and basic phones will remain constant.
