Startup streams Flash games into mobile devices
IT innovator YouWeb Incubator's new startup company iSwifter launched Thursday a new application that streams Adobe Flash games to tablet PCs and mobile phones.
The iSwifter app allows even iPhone users to play selections from Yahoo Games, AOL's Games.com, Facebook, and Kongregate despite Apple's ban on Flash games and apps on its iOS.
The app works by running the games on its server and streaming it to mobile phones as is via Wi-Fi. The iSwifter records the player's touches and sends it back to the server. There is a lag between the player's touch and the corresponding action in the game but iSwifter said the drawback is not undesirable in certain online games to still make the app acceptable to mobile device users.
iSwifter is initially streaming Flash games into iPads but will make the app available on iPhones later this year and on iPods in two weeks' time. Android-run devices will also get the app after a month if it generates favorable market response.
iSwifter also plans to make the app compatible with Windows Phone 7.
