As the anticipation grows for the upcoming “Dissidia Final Fantasy” arcade fighter, publisher Square Enix and developer Team Ninja have decided to dish out some new details before the game’s upcoming location test in Japan starts this week. Considering that most news about “Dissidia” have been mostly about characters, this should be a treat for fans that are excited for the “Final Fantasy” fighter.

Siliconera notes that the controls for the game are quite similar to the original versions that came out on the PlayStation Portable, or the PSP. One key difference however is that there are now multiple dash attacks instead of just a single one, like in the previous games.

Another big difference between the arcade and PSP versions is the new 3-on-3-battle system. This was supposedly done to give fans of the game a group system, similar to the more conventional “Final Fantasy” games, as the multiple members gives players the feeling of being in a group, or in RPG terms, a party where players have to properly strategise and look out for their own.

In addition to the group fights, players will also have support “EX Skills” that can power up allies or debuff enemies. Each character will have a unique “EX Skill” assigned to them, like the “Limit Break” move will be exclusive to “FF 7” protagonist Cloud Strife.

One huge addition is the ability to use summons in battles. A long time staple in the “Final Fantasy” series, these require players to attempt a summoning while a fight is going on, making the act of summoning incredibly risky in the game. The whole party can summon to quicken the process, though that does leave them vulnerable to attack.

IGN has also confirmed that the arcade fighter will debut with 14 fighters in the game’s roster. There were rumours that Square Enix were going to release 50 fighters for the game, but Gematsu has clarified that the news was simply misreported and that the company is merely just hoping to have 50 characters as various updates for the game gets released. So far seven characters have been confirmed, so seven more are going to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
