Sony gets court order banning sale of PS3Jailbreak in Australia
Sony has obtained a court order temporarily stopping Australian retailers from importing and selling a device that allows gamers to play pirated games on PlayStation 3 game consoles.
Ordered not to import, distribute or sell the PS3Jailbreak dongle were OzModChips, Mod Supplier and Quantronics. Quantronics and OzModChips have put a message on their websites saying the dongle is out of stock or sold out.
The court also allowed Sony to check the dongles in the retailers' possession for analysis to see how they work.
The PS3Jailbreak is the first product that cracks the security code of the PS3. The dongle contains a software that allows users to save home-made or pirated games to the PS3's hard drive.
Sony has until Tuesday to make the temporary ban permanent. Failure to do so would prompt the court to lift the temporary and the local sale of the PS3Jailbreak will start September 1.
Distributors of the dongle also exists in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K., and the U.S., according to the PS Jailbreak website.
