'Sharp Stick': Lena Dunham Explains Why She Thanked Taylor Swift, Joe Alwyn In Credits

Director Lena Dunham, who dropped her new movie "Sharp Stick" at the Sundance Film Festival last week, has revealed why she thanked Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn in the film's closing credits.

"They are just really great friends of mine who watched a really early cut of the film and gave me notes. They're both just really interesting perceptive people," Dunham said during IMDb's virtual interview with the "Sharp Stick" cast.

The 35-year-old actress and director also said she and Swift are close friends. Alwyn, on the other hand, worked with Dunham on a project, which she shot a couple of months ago.

"To have those smart people who are titans of industry in their own way look at the story and give me honest and generous feedback, that's all you could ever hope for," she said further.

Apparently, Dunham and Swift go back a long way. Their first-ever interaction took place on Twitter in 2012 when the actress-director complimented the singer's music. Swift replied to her tweet, noting she loved "Girls," Dunham's HBO series. Following the exchange, Dunham reportedly sent Swift a direct message saying she was looking forward to being friends with the singer.

Dunham appeared in the music video for Swift's "Bad Blood" in 2015. She also attended the singer's "Reputation" tour in 2018. When the actress-director married her partner, musician Luis Felber, last year, the "All Too Well" artist served as one of her bridesmaids.

"Sharp Stick" is a comedy movie penned and directed by Dunham. It stars Jon Bernthal, Kristine Froseth, Scott Speedman, Taylour Paige, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Tommy Dorfman. The movie was released on Jan. 22.

Swift will be seen in an untitled drama movie helmed by director David O. Russell. It is expected to release in November, but details of its plot have been kept under wraps.

Alwyn, on the other hand, will star in the movie "Catherine, Called Birdy," which is based on Karen Cushman's novel of the same title. The flick, directed by Dunham, will also feature Andrew Scott, Billie Piper, Bella Ramsey and Dean-Charles Chapman.

Swift and Alwyn first met at Met Gala in 2016 and began dating in 2017.
