Samsung starts U.S. sale of Fascinate smartphone
Samsung starts selling online its Android 2.1-powered Fascinate smartphone in the U.S. on Wednesday and the device will hit Verizon Wireless stores on Thursday.
The $200 Fascinate has a 4-inch AMOLED display like the other versions of smartphones under Samsung's Galaxy S series. It has 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processors, a touch screen keyboard featuring Swype technology for faster input, a Kindle e-reader, a 5-megapixel camera and a 16 gigabyte memory.
Accessories that go with the Fascinate are a charging cradle, car dock and backup battery charger. The cradle, which doubles as a micro USB wall adapter and desktop speakerphone for hands-free calling, cost $30. The dock, which functions as a GPS navigator, is worth $40.
The charger comes with a spare battery also for $40.
Verizon is selling the Fascinate together with a $40 per month plan and a $30 per month e-mail and Web service under a two-year contract.
