Four-Star Hotel to Rise Near Sydney Airport

Rydges Hotels and the Denwol group will build a $68-million four-star hotel just outside the International Terminal of Sydney Airport. Construction is expected to begin soon and is scheduled to be substantially complete by late 2012.

The local share market is recording modest growth mid-session, after a mixed night on world markets. European share markets closed lower after Italian bond yields (borrowing costs) rose and following a lacklustre reading on third quarter economic growth. Wall Street recorded modest gains in a choppy session, with technology stocks the best performers.

Global markets were mixed overnight, with Europe weaker, but the US stronger. Softness in the European session came on the back of rising borrowing costs for Spanish debt and reports that new Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti met resistance in forming a cabinet. However, there was a turnaround in the US session on improved optimism around Mario Monti's ability to battle the debt crisis, plus some impressive US economic data.

US retail sales grew by 0.5pct in October, above forecasts for a gain of 0.3pct. Excluding autos, sales were up 0.6pct. Producer prices fell 0.3pct in October while the core rate (excludes food and energy) was unchanged. Both results were weaker than forecasts. And the ´´Empire State´´ business index improved from minus 8.48 to +0.61 in November.
