Sony officially launched the new generation gaming console PlayStation 5 in November 2020, but a lot of gamers are still having a hard time securing a unit to this day. Good thing, the Japanese gaming giant has opened the registration so fans can get a chance to purchase PS5 consoles directly from the company.

PS5 registration is now open for customers in the U.S., the U.K., France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and the Netherlands. The fresh sign-up, which now extends to Europe, comes after the limited number of PlayStation 5 units available for U.S. customers over the holiday season.

Interested customers simply need to have an email address linked with a PlayStation Network ID and agree to receive marketing emails to qualify. It is worth noting that the registration does not guarantee customers will get a PS5, but it increases the customers' chance of getting the console while avoiding scalpers.

Sony chooses registered customers at random, and like its previous registration, the number of consoles available is limited.

"We will have a limited amount of PS5 Consoles available for customers to purchase direct from PlayStation," Sony noted on its registration site.

The company also assures consumers that it will reach out to them for instructions and details before the event starts. Consumers should also keep in mind that even when they receive an email from Sony, it is not yet a guarantee that they will get the console.

"Your purchase window is open for a limited time only and while supplies last," Sony explained on its site's Frequently Asked Questions section.

"Due to limited quantities and high demand, we will be limiting transactions to one PS5 console or one PS5 Digital Edition console per PSN ID per household," the company also emphasized.

The latest gaming console from Sony has been in short supply for more than a year now. The company has been doing its best to meet the demands, but supply chain issues prevent it from doing so.

It can be recalled that Sony announced it would give fans the opportunity to register to purchase a PS5 directly from the company in October 2021. The company also airlifted PS5 consoles into the U.K. in November to meet the demand during the holidays.

In response to the ongoing shortage, the Japanese gaming giant also decided to make more PlayStation 4 consoles recently.
