Yuya is one half of the boy pop duo named ZINGS. Unlike his partner, Yuya works for an easy paycheck in the entertainment business. However, his life changes when he encounters the ghost of a singer.

"Phantom of the Idol" is a supernatural comedy premiering in the summer 2022 anime season.

Yuya is lazy and relies on the exceptional skills of his partner in ZINGS. He is sloppy and half-hearted on the stage and it impacts the duo’s performance.

Moreover, he is hostile toward his fans and audience. Now fans have started hating him and his agent wants him out of the group.

In "Phantom of the Idol" Episode 1, after a bad concert, Yuya encounters a girl backstage. She is full of life and vigor and wants to perform. But there is one problem, the girl, named Asahi Mogami, has been dead for a year.

“Most idols are fueled by their love of performing before adoring fans. Yuya, however, is fueled by his love of an easy paycheck! Yuya is one half of the idol duo ZINGS, but his supreme laziness (not to mention his disdain for idol fans in general) has him on the brink of getting blacklisted from the business,” read the official synopsis of "Phantom of the Idol" anime, as per Sentai.

“In a chance backstage encounter, he meets the spectral Asahi, a mysterious former idol who’s eager to stage her own comeback by any means necessary… including assuming complete control of Yuya's willing body and aiming to become the best idol in the world together! Is their zany partnership a match a made in heaven, or is it pure idol hell?” it continued.

The cast of the anime includes Fumiya Imai as Yuya Niyodo, Shun Horie Kazuki Yoshino, Nao Toyama as Asahi Mogami, Takuma Terashima as Hikaru Setouchi, Takuya Sato as Chihiro Misaki, Tatsuyuki Kobayashi as Akira Uchihama, Yo Taichi as Tsugiko, Yohei Azakami as Homare Hakata, Sho Hayami as Narrator, Eri Kitamura as Hitomi Shinano, Haruki Ishiya as Yukinari Nada, Hitomi Ueda as Kasenjiki, and Manaka Iwami as Shigutaro.

The series is based on an original story by Hijiki Isoflavone. "Phantom of the Idol" anime is directed by Daisei Fukuoka. The series composition and scripting of the show are handled by Yasuko Aoki.

The music for the anime is composed by Myu. Saori Hosoda is roped in for character designing and chief animation direction.

"Phantom of the Idol" Episode 1 is scheduled to debut Friday. Fans in the U.S. can tune into Hidive and watch the first episode. The installments will stream in Japanese with English subtitles.

The anime is called "Kami Kuzu Idol" in Japanese.
