Optus has made more than 50 positions redundant for Alphawest, its business and service provider division.

The company has terminated a total of 56 positions from all levels in divisions such as commercial, sales and marketing and customer service. The redundancies came to about 2 percent of the combined workforce of Optus Business and Alphawest.

The redundancies are "part of organisational changes aimed at introducing greater operational efficiencies, reducing duplication and removing functions that no longer support our key business objectives," the company said.

"We are exploring redeployment opportunities for impacted staff to ensure they remain supported throughout the process with outplacement services and our employee assistance program also available."

The company was named as one of the global service provider launch partners for VMware's vCloud Director earlier this month. The solution allows organizations to provide secure IT as a service to end-users.
