One million Wii Fit games sold in Australia
Game sold to more than half of Aussie Wii owners
Nintendo, the video game company, released new figures showing that one million Wii Fit games have been sold across Australia. The data places the titles in the homes of over half of Australian Wii owners.
The Nintendo Wii is by far the most popular console in Australia in terms of sales. The company says that more than 1.79 million units have been sold in Australia since its December 2006 release.
In comparison, Microsoft's Xbox 360 has sold 1 million units across both Australia and New Zealand. Sony's Playstation 3, on the other hand, has an install base of 770,000 units in Australia alone.
There is further evidence of Wii owners in Australia being keen on fitness. The figures also show that more than half of the Wii owners in Australia have a balance board. The Wii Fit figures also do not include sales of the Wii Fit Plus software-only offering, which has a price of AU$29.95 without a balance board.
Other first-party Nintendo titles have similar impressive sales figures in Australia. The Wii Play bundle, which comes with a nunchuck peripheral, has sold more than 900,000 units. Mario Kart Wii has sold more than 600,000 units. Wii Sports Resort, which was released last year, has now sold more than half a million units.
