NFL Trade News 2015: Eagles-Rams Swap Quarterbacks; Nick Foles To St. Louis, Sam Bradford To Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Eagles are set to ship quarterback Nick Foles and draft picks to the St. Louis Rams in exchange for quarterback Sam Bradford. Both are expected to retain their starter status for their new teams barring any more roster changes and the exchange of quarterbacks was one of the major deals when the new league season of the National Football League, or NFL opened on Tuesday.
Adam Schefter, NFL Insider of ESPN.com, reported the deal on Twitter. The deal involves the Eagles sending picks in 2015 and 2016 to the Rams, which will receive a fifth rounder in the trade.
Both Foles and Bradford have had their histories with injuries. Foles, who had an 81.4 passer rating in the 2014 season, played in only 28 games in three seasons in Philadelphia and Bradford has missed the entire 2014 NFL season. Before tearing his ACL, Bradford was considered one of the top prospect QBs in the league wining the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2010. He had a couple of seasons with 3,500-plus passing yards, in his rookie year and in his third year.
Foles also showed he is a capable starter in games he played when healthy. In eight game in the 2014 season, Foles passed for 2,163 yards on 186 of 311 completions with 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The deal is considered one of the early “shockers” in the current NFL offseason and has draw varied reactions on social media. From former NFL player turned analyst Deion Sanders:
