The Dallas Cowboys won the Greg Hardy sweepstakes in the 2015 offseason of the National Football League. The tight end also drew interest from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks but eventually signed a short one-year deal with the Texas franchise.

The deal is worth $11.3 million, with potential bonuses that could make it more than $13 million, and will run for only a year meaning Hardy will be a free agent once again after the 2015 NFL season. As early as Tuesday, there were already reports that Hardy to Dallas was a done deal pending a physical examination. The signing was made official on Wednesday, according to Adam Schefter, NFL Insider for ESPN.

Hardy, who was involved in a domestic abuse charges is currently on the Commissioner’s Exempt List. The move in signing Hardy also meant that star running back Adrian Peterson, if released by the Minnesota Vikings, is unlikely to land in Dallas because of the Cowboys’ financial situation. Hardy was convicted for assaulting his partner in mid-2014 and was deactivated by the Panthers after just one game with the team.

Without the off-field issues, Hardy was considered one of the better defensive players in the league making the NFL Pro Bowl and NFL All-Pro Second Team in 2013. Hardy has 204 tackles, 34 sacks and 7 forced fumbles in his four-year NFL career. Hardy is one of the acquisitions of Dallas in the 2015 offseason. Recent Dallas' signings include deals for inside linebackers Andrew Gahkar and Jasper Brinkley and running backs Darren McFadden and DeMarco Murray.
