Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice wants a second chance in the NFL similar to wide receiver Adrian Peterson, who has returned to the Minnesota Vikings despite past off-the-field controversies.

ESPN reports that Rice’s camp is lobbying for the RB’s NFL comeback led by the former coach of Rice, Greg Schiano, who handled Rice with Rutgers in college football.

Rice was involved in a domestic violence controversy that caused him to be indefinitely suspended by the league and to miss the entire 2014 NFL season. Rice’s stock in the league is very low, as the incident became one of the most talked about domestic abuse issues in the leagu after a video was leaked online showing Rice knocking out an ex-fiancée in an elevator. The former fiancée, Janay Palmer is now Rice’s wife.

Similarly, Peterson also missed but one game of the same season after the Vikings wide receiver was alleged to have beaten up his four-year old son. The Vikings and Peterson have since made up and the wide receiver even restructured his deal with the squad for the next few seasons.

The 28-year-old Rice was a second round pick by the Ravens in the 2008 NFL Draft or the 55th overall selection. In six of eight seasons in Baltimore, he has registered 1,100-plus rushing yards and has a total of 37 career touchdowns. His best year came in 2011 when he ran for 1,364 yards on 214 carries with a dozen touchdowns. Rice is also an experienced playoff performer in the NFL with 12 postseason games in his resume.

Rice, who has made the NFL Pro Bowl squad three times in his career, in 2009, 2011 and 2012, was a key part of the Ravens championship team that won Super Bowl XLVII over the San Francisco 49ers in 2013. Rice ran for 306 yards on 84 carries with 2 touchdowns in Baltimore’s run to the NFL title.

According to the same ESPN report, Rice is not motivated by money in his attempt to return to the league but just wants a shot at making the comeback.
