Jermaine Gresham has agreed to a short one-year term contract with the Arizona Cardinals. The veteran tight end initially explored options with other NFL teams but decided to join an Arizona squad, which was lacking experience from the TE position.

The team’s official website confirmed the signing and announced the acquisition on social media as well. The terms of the deal were not disclosed by the team.

The 27-year-old Gresham, who was a first round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft or the 21st selection overall, has played the last five seasons in with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was consistently on the field for the Bengals missing just six games out of 80 regular season games with the team.

In five years in Cincinnati, he has accumulated 2,722 receiving yards on 280 receptions with 24 touchdowns. Gresham has made the NFL Pro Bowl squad twice in his career, in 2011 and 2012.

In Gresham’s rookie season, he played with current Cardinals starting quarterback Carson Palmer, who played in Cincinnati from 2004 to 2010. Gresham’s first year and only season with Palmer produced 471 receiving yards on 52 receptions with four touchdowns.

At Arizona, he’s expected to battle for starting TE position after John Carlson retired earlier in the offseason and both Darren Fells and Troy Niklas are not expected to be targeted as receivers throughout the season.

The Cardinals continued to veterans in the offseason after acquisition of linebacker John Abraham and tackle Eric Winston in previous years.

In his final season with the Bengals, Gresham had 460 receiving yards on 62 receptions with five touchdowns.
