After spending the past decade with just one team, the San Francisco 49ers, veteran running back Frank Gore is set to join a new team, the Philadelphia Eagles. As a free agent, the deal will only become official until Tuesday, when the new season of the National Football League, or NFL, opens.

According to an ESPN report, the unconfirmed deal is for two or three years. NFL Media’s Albert Breer also confirmed the report and the amount and terms of the contract. The move will address the Eagles’ open position at the starting running back spot after the Eagles traded away star RB LeSean McCoy earlier in the 2015 offseason.

The 10-year veteran who was drafted in the third round by San Francisco in the 2005 NFL Draft is expected to start at running back for the Eagles handled by head coach Chip Kelly.

The 31 year old Gore will be entering his 11th season in the league and in the past 10 seasons, has registered 1,000-plus yards eight times. In his second year in San Francisco, he ran for 1,695 yards and was the league’s rushing leader. In the past four years with the 49ers, he remained as one of the most consistent running backs in the league running for 1,100-plus yards for consecutive years. For his entire NFL career, he has logged in 64 touchdowns and average 4.5 rushing yards per carry.

Gore, who is San Francisco’s all time rushing yards leader with 11,073 career rushing yards, has made the NFL Pro Bowl team five times in his career in 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013 and more importantly for the Eagles they get a player who is a considered a positive locker room presence. Early reports during the offseason stated that the 49ers were willing to re-sign Gore, who helped the 49ers to an NFC championship in 2012, back with the team but it never materialised. Gore’s decision may have been pushed by the decision of the 49ers to fire Jim Harbaugh after a disappointing finish to the 2014 season.

In other Eagles news, the team also acquired free agent cornerback Byron Maxwell, who previously played for the Seattle Seahawks.
