Newcastle Set Sights On Displaced Arsenal Forward In Next Window

Newcastle United is under new ownership, and the club has a lot of work to do.

At the top of the list is getting in key players, something that is likely to happen in the January transfer window.

A consortium made up of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, RB Sports & Media and PCP Capital Partners officially took over from Mike Ashley last October 7, ending the 57-year-old’s ownership of the team.

Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of PIF, will serve as Non-Executive Chairman of Newcastle United. Meanwhile, Amanda Staveley--the chief executive of PCP Capital Partners--will have one seat on the board.

Jamie Reuben will also be a director of the club to represent RB Sports & Media, according to the club’s official website.

Aware that the Magpies need to take drastic actions as early as the January transfer window, the name of Alexandre Lacazette has come into play.

He is one of several targets by Newcastle United in the next transfer window, an acquisition that would make sense.

The 30-year-old footballer has fallen down the pecking order of Mikel Arteta and has just eight months left in his current contract.

According to Fichajes, the Magpies could offer Lacazette a way out before his current deal expires.

The amount of money that new Newcastle United management would be willing to spend on Lacazette was not revealed.

But either way, it appears the Magpies are determined to acquire the Frenchman–either in January or once he officially becomes a free agent.

Of course, Lacazette is only one of the multiple players Newcastle United is targeting. Per reports, there is allegedly a 10-man shortlist of star players that the new management wants to sign in the coming transfer windows.

Arteta has gotten his share of criticism for overlooking the French forward. That includes Frank McAvennie, who blasted the Gunners coach for leaving out Lacazette, Football Insider reported.

It appears, however, that Arteta and the Gunners are headed in a different direction. In fact, it was previously reported that Arsenal is aware of Lacazette’s impending exit and has already started to look for replacements.

The two names the Gunners are allegedly eyeing are Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton and Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa.
