A new job ad posted by Obsidian Entertainment, the team behind "Outer Worlds 2," may have revealed the much-awaited sequel's game engine and other details about the title.

A lot of gaming studios, including Microsoft first-party studios, already confirmed they would use the new Unreal Engine 5 for their upcoming projects. This time, a new job ad spotted by industry insider klobrille seemingly suggests Obsidian Entertainment is using the same engine.

The job ad listed by the video gaming studio seeks a qualified individual to fill the post of Houdini Technical Artist for its world-building team. "This role requires a solid understanding of world-building tool development in Houdini, Houdini Engine, and related pipelines for next-gen RPG development in Unreal Engine," the job post reportedly reads.

In the job ad's Plus section, Obsidian Entertainment notes, "An understanding of the material editor in Unreal Engine, as well as an understanding of new features coming in UE5."

As for the ad's Requirements section, it says, "Intermediate knowledge of procedural modeling with Houdini 18.5 or later with at least a year of Houdini Engine experience or equivalent examples of Houdini Digital Assets made for Unreal or Unity."

The role also requires "2 years of working knowledge in Unreal Engine using World Composition and Terrain Tools."

Although the ad does not mention the name of the project the chosen candidate will work on, many believe it is for "The Outer Worlds 2."

While the gaming studio is currently working on two major RPG titles, the development of "Avowed" is already in full swing and has been ongoing, so it is unlikely that the job ad is for this title. The developers would not simply switch game engines in the middle of the production process.

On the other hand, the development of "The Outer Worlds 2" is just starting, so there's a great possibility that the job ad is for this game. As suggested by the job listing, the chosen candidate will work using Unreal Engine 5. Moreover, it seemingly teases that the upcoming sequel would run on the latest engine developed by Epic Games.

In June, Obsidian Entertainment released the game's teaser trailer, confirming that the game is in production. Feargus Urquhart, studio head at the company, noted that the game would take place "in a new star system with a new crew."
