National Comic Book Day on Sept. 25 marks the yearly celebration of comic book stories, art, and artists.

Although it isn’t much known about the origin of the day, it is celebrated in a variety of ways, including attending conventions, sharing comic collections, and visiting a comic book store.

Celebrate National Comic Book Day by checking out popular quotes, compiled from Comic Basics, Exploring Your Mind, and Ranker, from some notable comic book characters.

  • “It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.” - Batman
  • “You are much stronger than you think you are. Trust me.” - Superman
  • “True happiness is found along a middle road. There lies the balance and the harmony— with reason and emotion, not at war but hand in hand.” - Aquaman
  • “It’s not always the fastest who excel. What’s important is being the last one standing.” - Wolverine
  • “It’s not how you hit the mat, it’s how you get up.” - Daredevil
  • “We come into the world alone, and we leave the same way. The time we spend in between — time spent alive, sharing, learning together — is all that makes life worth living.” - Jean Grey
  • “There’s nothing wrong with being afraid as long as you don’t let it overcome you.” - Captain America
  • “We’re not just our failures. As much as they hurt, we learn from them. Then we go out there and do our best to make up for them — Even though we never will. We save people. We save as many as we can to make up for the ones we couldn’t. That’s all we do.” - Spider-Man
  • “Life doesn’t give us purpose. We give life purpose.” - The Flash
  • “We have a saying, my people. ‘Don’t kill if you can wound, don’t wound if you can subdue, don’t subdue if you can pacify, and don’t raise your hand at all until you’ve first extended it.’” - Wonder Woman
