Miranda Lambert talks about post-divorce single ‘Vice’

Miranda Lambert came clean on her upcoming album, which she wrote after her divorce from fellow country singer Blake Shelton. After keeping quiet for the past year, Lambert has opened up about her music and her latest single “Vice” in an interview with Billboard magazine.

“I’m nervous as hell,” Lambert told Billboard. “It takes a lot of confidence and strength to be vulnerable.

“I feel like when you listen to the song, there’s really nothing to read into. It says what it says.”

Lambert stated how everyone goes through a tough time in their lives. The 32-year-old singer further divulged that she journals her life by recreating it into a melody and putting it on paper, allowing people to hear about it. She then said that it’s up to them how they take it.

“I can’t worry about what somebody might twist it into,” the “Somethin’ Bad” songstress said. “Because it’s not like I’m hiding anything.

"Every record I’ve ever made has been a reflection of where I am right then in my life, however old I am. And I’ve never held back at all," she continued. "But this time with what I happened to be going through in my life, being honest was never really a choice. Everybody knew anyway. So I just said, I’m gonna journal it, and — good days and bad days — use it for my art.”

Despite describing it as a “tear in your beer” ballad based on her own life, Lambert promised it wouldn't necessarily be an agonising song.

“I don’t think anybody’s gonna listen to this new project and say, ‘Ohhh, it’s so sad,’” she related.

In an Instagram message, Lambert confessed how the last year of her life has been one of “heartache and healing, facing fears and feelings.” Given what she had to go through this past year, it’s easy to expect a more emotionally invested upcoming album.

“Vice” is a teaser for a yet unnamed fifth album Lambert is expected to release before the year ends.
