Edinson Cavani will leave Manchester United this summer, interim boss Ralf Rangnick has confirmed.

Manchester United ended the 2021-22 season with a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace, which was Cavani's final appearance in the Redshirt. He is out of contract this summer and is set to part ways with the Old Trafford side, Rangnick said Sunday.

"It would be good to finish this season with a good game, three points, and I'm pretty sure the team sees it the same way. Out of our starting XI, there will be 10, apart from Edi Cavani, who will still be playing for this club next season. I presume they'd much rather play in the Europa League than the Conference League," he told MUTV.

Manchester United finished sixth in the 2021-22 Premier League and will play in the Europa League next season. They managed just 16 wins in 38 games, while they drew 10 and lost 12.

Reacting to the loss to Crystal Palace, Rangnick said, "We knew [what work lies ahead] before that game. We wouldn't have needed that fixture today to know that, but I'm optimistic, I'm positive. With the new manager and Erik [ten Hag] as a top manager, together with our board, with our scouting department, we can make sure that we get the necessary reinforcements, the players that help to raise the level of quality again. And then, hopefully, bring Manchester United back into the top four."

The 1-0 loss at Selhurst Park Stadium is Manchester United's sixth straight away loss in the Premier League. It is for the first time since March 1981 that the Red Devils have lost six in a row on the road. They also have failed to end a league campaign with a positive goal difference (0 in 2021-22) for the first time since 1989-90 (-1), according to Opta Joe.

Cavani joined Manchester United from PSG on a free transfer in the summer of 2020. The 35-year-old forward missed at least 24 games this term due to various injuries, while he made only 20 appearances across competitions for Red Devils. He scored two goals and provided an assist this season.

Overall, Cavani finished his Red Devils career with 19 goals and seven assists in 59 competitive matches.
