A report claims that San Francisco 49ers rookie Jarryd Hayne has a “pretty good” chance of getting back into the team’s active squad amid the franchise's growing struggles this season.

According to Richard Shute of the Sydney Morning Herald, there is a chance that 49ers coach Jim Tomsula puts his trust once again to the Australian rugby league star.

“Since Hayne's last gameday appearance, the 49ers have only won one game - and they are dead in the water for the season,” Shute writes. “With coach Tomsula's job security at an all-time low, it is altogether possible he will adopt a 'nothing to lose' strategy and shake things up.”

Shute added that Bruce Ellington, who replaced Hayne in the 49ers punt returning job, could be demoted following his second muffed punt in two straight games. Hayne was believed to be waived from the active roster after committing three fumbles in six regular season games, but with how Ellington is poorly playing the, US media has called out the 49ers to start the “Hayne Plane” in San Francisco.

Matt Maiocco of Comcast Sportsnet posted on Twitter that it was a huge mistake by Ellington to muff a punt near midfield, suggesting that it might be time to get the former Eel back in Tomsula’s game day rotation. Cam Inman, 49ers beat writer for the Bay Area News Group, also took the social media platform to voice out that “Hayne could have done” what Ellington failed to accomplish in the first quarter of San Francisco’s 19-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

“Bruce Ellington muffed Arizona’s first punt, which is his second fumble in as many games and should open the door to Jarryd Hayne’s recall,” Inman writes on the San Jose Mercury News.

With a record of 3-8, the 49ers have no chance to reach the playoffs after the 2015-2016 NFL regular season, and this could be the right moment for the team to give Hayne another go and develop the 27-year-old rookie’s American football skills.
