Internet devices on the rise in Australia
Ownership of tablet computers, smartphones and Internet television devices to increase next year
A Nielsen survey suggests that ownership of tablet computers, smartphones and internet television devices among Australians will increase significantly next year.
The research found that over five million people in the country were considering purchasing a tablet device over the next year. In addition, 30 per cent said that they were considering buying an Internet-connected television. Also, about 31 per cent were planning to buy a gadget that connected television sets to the Internet.
The study also saw 28 per cent of respondents admit to considering buying a smartphone. About 22 per cent of respondents, on the other hand, said they were planning to purchase an additional handheld computer device.
About 13 per cent of respondents said that they used handheld computing devices to connect to the Internet. The research predicts that the figure will rise to 30 per cent next year.
Online videos are also on the rise too. About 77 per cent of respondents admitted to watching at least one clip over the past month. The figures show a modest rise from 71 per cent last April. In addition, 26 per cent of respondents said they watched video using a mobile phone. About 31 per cent of respondents said that they viewed videos on their handheld computing device.
The results are part of Nielsen's Global Consumer Survey.
