HTC, the mobile phone maker, released figures showing a 33 percent increase in its net income, largely due to its collaboration with Google in offering the Android operating system on its smartphones.

The company said its Evo 4G will contribute to maintaining sales momentum into the second half of the year.

HTC also announced profits of $268 million for the second quarter of this year, the company's highest since since 2007, with total revenues increasing by 58.45 percent year over year. This makes the Taiwan-based company a major contender in the mobile device market.

HTC still has handsets based on Microsoft Windows Mobile. However, the company's line of handsets running on Android, such as the Evo 4G, the Droid Incredible, Google's Nexus One and T-Mobile's myTouch3 have enabled HTC to break into the U.S. market.

HTC has successfully changed it status as an original design manufacturer (ODM), selling products branded by the companies that purchase them, to being an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) that has its brand name associated with successful products.
