Last week brought on a wave of excitement within the Halo community following a short teaser trailer. But potentially the biggest news this week is the reveal of the release date of Oct. 27 on the Xbox One.

This comes from the latest live-action trailer that has been released featuring Agent Locke walking in what’s left of a city. In keeping with previous teasers, it appears that Locke is narrating that Master Chief had been the saviour and now the betrayer. And in the trailer, the camera swoops from the statue of Master Chief to the actual person, and Locke menacingly points a pistol at him.

According to IGN, the trailer had been previously leaked, though only the still shot of it was made public. Interestingly, the source stated that another ad had appeared an hour later, this time reversing the events and retelling the same scene from the eyes of the Master Chief.

As though this reveal was not enough, there has also been an update to the #HunttheTruth website. In the latest episode, fictional investigator Benjamin Giraud delves into Master Chief’s origins as a resident of Elysium City. Giraud retells how the attack of the Covenant on earth had happened. He recounted how the attack killed millions, and gave humans the feeling that they were no longer safe. But he also hinted that “someone” happened. That is, the massive man in green appeared seemingly out of nowhere to repel the global invasion. Of course, this was no one else except the Master Chief.

The journalist gotten in touch with different people who have spent some time with the Master Chief, then called John. From a teacher who used to teach primary school where John was a student of, to a fellow female resident who had been his neighbour and childhood playmate in Elysium City. The interviewees did recount some colourful memories of the Master Chief, but there are also some dark moments.

One such moment happened when the Master Chief was 13 years old. He had been signed up for boxing, but he suddenly didn’t show up. This happened in the year 2524, at the same time as insurrection had arrived in the community where the Master Chief was in.

The story recounted the darker days that followed. From the torture of being hauled into camps, though refugees were able to survive. Giraud ends with what can be a major twist in an otherwise infamous hero’s origin story. John, the Master Chief, the boy whom everyone knew as the great boy and even greater hero, had already died at age six.

Giraud promises another episode in the coming week, though there is no telling whether it is a continuation of the first one. The link above showcases the full 12-minute story. 343 Industries is certainly gearing up for a major explosive story for “Halo 5: Guardians,” if the Hunt the Truth series is anything to go by.
