A man has been shot dead by another armed man at a Shell service station in Argyle Street, Picton, on Wednesday. The accused fled the scene after shooting the man and is running loose in Sydney’s far south-west. The police have advised people to avoid the area.

While searching for the gunman, the police have also reportedly discovered another body in a nearby creek. But the discovery could not be immediately confirmed by the police.

According to police, the shooting in Picton was not a case of terrorist attack. The victim had been targeted by the gunman. Camden Local Area Command and the Homicide Squad is investigating the incident. Police have cordoned off an area and combing nearby streets and localities.

“A perimeter has been established, there have been no arrests at this time and members of the public are urged to avoid the area,” said police in a statement.

A woman who was present at the scene said the police is stopping every car coming out of Pitcon and noting the number plates.

"They're not letting anyone into town and there is a massive queue of cars," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted her as saying.

The Department of Education said that Picton High School has been locked down while security at the Picton Public School has been increased following the incident.

“(We) saw a guy just sort of stagger from the main road, up to the petrol bowser and just drop,” a woman present at the scene told 2GB Radio. “There were police already there who were screaming at us to get out of there.”

According to witnesses, around 20 police cars and four tactical units promptly respondent to the situation.

The Picton shooting on Wednesday comes a month after a tattoo shop, located nearby, was showered with bullets. The tattoo shop that was linked to Bachelorette winner Sasha Mielczarek’s family and another business next to it were fired from a car on Nov. 8.
