“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” will further explore the relationship between Thanos’ adopted daughters Gamora and Nebula. Karen Gillan, who plays the villain Nebula, recently revealed what fans should expect to see from her character in the sequel.

Comic Book Resources caught up with the actress at the Hollywood premiere of “The Big Short,” where she has a cameo, to quiz her on some details about “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.” Gillan was asked what she’s most thrilled to see happen in the sequel. Without revealing any storyline spoilers, the actress talked about wanting to dig deeper into the sisterly bond, if any, between Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula.

“I think what I'm really excited about it delving into the sisterly relationship between Gamora and Nebula. I think that we're going to see a little bit more of that, and it's going to be a bit more fleshed out,” she said.

The first movie made it clear that Gamora and Nebula’s relationship was built on a strong foundation of hatred for each other. In “Guardians of the Galaxy” Nebula despised Gamora, according to Cinema Blend, since she was Thanos’ favourite. Both sisters were vying for their father’s love and attention, and Nebula wanted more than to see Gamora dead. Nebula found her chance at killing her sister when Gamora decided to join forces with Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Groot (Vin Diesel), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) and Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper).

Whether Nebula will remain a villain or become the guardians’ ally in “Guardians in the Galaxy 2” is still uncertain. However, the character’s return in the sequel is very much backed up by James Gunn. The movie director had made it clear in previous interviews that he wants to further explore Nebula’s background story in the movie.

In a previous interview with Yahoo, Gunn had compared Nebula with the bounty hunter Boba Fett, in a sense that he wants Nebula to also become a fan favourite just like the Star Wars villain. Gunn also expressed his love for the character’s design and his “many plans for Nebula” in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”
