The settlement proposal pending approval before a federal court in San Jose, California includes $2,500 to be paid to each of seven Gmail users who filed the lawsuits, $6 million for organisations focused on Internet privacy policy or privacy education, and attorneys' fees.

The lawsuit claimed that Google Buzz violated the privacy of Gmail users by exposing their e-mail contacts to other users of the social networking feature of Gmail. Google, though, had made adjustments to the feature by making it not automatically available to Gmail users and

Launched in February, Google Buzz works like Facebook in that Gmail users can share photos and videos through it as well as post comments or messages. However, Gmail users who follow e-mail contacts regularly through the Buzz exposes the contacts to other Buzz users.
