Google launches new feature to Google Maps
Feature allow users to look over walking directions for navigating through local areas
For its Android version 4.5, Google added a new walking view of its Google Mobile Maps. The update was launched on Thursday night and will allow users to look over walking directions for navigating through local areas. The walking directions will correspond to the streets where a user is already walking in some cases. However, in other instances, local walking trails and other thoroughfares will be used.
In a blog post, Andrey Ulanov and Kevin Law, who are both software engineers for Google, said that the company's mobile maps app defaults to a satellite view to provide users a sense of the landmarks and the streets around them.
Users also have the option of turning off the voice navigation feature and set the phone to vibrate when the user needs consultation in making a turn. Local search for the app has also been enhanced. The update allows users to filter results by distance. The solution also gives users an idea of a restaurant's prices through the filtering feature, which is represented by dollar signs. The capability is also included on the Yelp application.
In addition, Google also updated the Google Maps application's Street View feature. The capability must be downloaded in a separate app. The update does away with the service's "click arrow to scroll" navigation.
