Google Australia director to leave for US post
Temsamani to global head of mobile sales
Karim Temsamani, managing director of Google's operations in Australia and New Zealand, is leaving his current post for a senior job in the US with the Internet company.
Temsamani, who has held the position for the past three years, will be leaving soon to become the global head of mobile ad sales for Google. The position will be based at the company's headquarters in Mountain View, California.
Google announced recently that 200,000 new Android-powered devices are activated every day.
Temsamani will be vacating his post before his department generates up to $1 billion in annual revenue. Experts predict that the division will hit the mark this time next year.
Temsamani, a former Fairfax magazine executive, led Google's Australia and New Zealand into solid growth.
A press release from the company also credits Temsamani for building partnerships with agency partners. SMI, a research company, has released figures suggesting that the company's revenue generated from bookings made by major media buying agencies represents a small part of its total revenues.
According to figures from SMI, agencies spent $101.4 million with Google planning and buying search-marketing campaigns for the most recent financial year. The numbers represent an 89 percent increase on the previous year.
This shows Google's aim to work with ad agencies instead of dealing directly with businesses. However, SMI's findings also show that the figure represented just 17 percent of the agencies' total digital budgets.
Google's share of the paid online search market in Australia is estimated at 93 percent. By next year, the figure is expected to grow by between 30 and 40 percent.
''The past three years working with the team have been extraordinary and I'm excited to take on a new challenge.
There's no doubt that the future of the internet is mobile and I look forward to playing a greater part in this fast-growing and exciting business," Temsamani said.
