Fuller, Beckham Out For Week 2

A couple of marquee wide receivers who once appeared likely to play in Week 2 will be sidelined for yet another week. Will Fuller and Odell Beckham Jr. have both been ruled out for a second straight game, still waiting to make their 2021 NFL season debuts.

Fuller was supposed to play Sunday for the Miami Dolphins against the Buffalo Bills after missing Week 1 as part of a suspension he received in 2020. Dolphins head coach Brian Flores gave the news Friday that Fuller won’t play because of a personal issue.

"He has my support. Things happen," Flores told reporters. "When they happen, they're not part of normal every day, it's a surprise from that standpoint. He's dealing with it. We'll support him."

An inability to stay on the field has prevented Fuller from being recognized as one of the NFL’s top receivers. In 11 games for the Houston Texans last season, Fuller averaged 79.9 receiving yards per game with eight touchdowns.

When healthy, both Fuller and Beckham can be among the most productive receivers in fantasy football.

Beckham is viewed as an elite receiver, though injuries have prevented the three-time Pro Bowl selection from producing consistently in recent years. The torn ACL that ended his 2020 season prematurely continues to keep Beckham out of the Cleveland Browns’ lineup.

Beckham was somewhat of a surprising scratch from Cleveland’s opening weekend matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs. He won’t play Sunday against the Texans.

"He was pushing to get there, just didn't feel like he could play a significant number of snaps," Browns coach Stefanski said earlier in the week. "I just felt like this for this week, the prudent thing to do was let those other [receivers] get all those reps and, let's game plan accordingly."

Beckham is averaging 83.3 yards per game for his career. The two-time All-Pro last recorded more than 1,052 yards in the 2016 season.
