Facebook launches 'safety page'
Web site to highlight news and initiatives on online safety
Facebook launches a Web page aimed at helping users to stay safe on the Internet.
In a blog post, Joe Sullivan of Facebook says that the "Safety Page" will highlight news and initiatives on ways people can keep data secure at the social networking Web site.
The new page is meant to supplement a virtual Safety Center introduced in April. The Safety Center was based on a "security page" that lists up to more than 2.2 million "fans."
"Online safety is a shared responsibility... We'll continue to think of innovative ways to promote safety on our service and elsewhere on the Web," says Sullivan.
The Safety Page was launched after privacy activists demanded that Facebook users be given more control over their personal data. In an open letter to Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's co-founder and chief executive, privacy groups lauded the Web site's security measures but said more changes are needed.
