Elon Musk's 18-year-old daughter has dropped the billionaire's surname after her request to legally change her name and gender was granted.

On Wednesday, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge granted the teen's request to legally change her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. Her new last name is her mother Justine Wilson's maiden name.

Vivian – who was given the name Xavier Alexander Musk at birth – was also granted a gender change as she identifies as female.

A new birth certificate reflecting the changes will soon be issued by the state registrar, the court documents said.

Earlier this week, news broke that Vivian filed the petition back in April, shortly after her 18th birthday.

In the petition, she explained that her reasons for requesting the changes were "gender identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form."

Musk, 50, previously claimed that he supports transgender issues. But he came under fire for a tweet he made two years ago criticizing the use of preferred pronouns.

"I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare," he wrote on Twitter at the time, adding, "Pronouns suck."

The Tesla CEO and Vivian's mother have not spoken publicly about the ruling yet, but earlier this week, Justine shared a snippet of a family chat she had with the teen.

"'I had a weird childhood,' my 18-year-old said to me. 'I can't believe I'm as normal-seeming as I am,'" Justine tweeted Monday, the same day that news of the petition began circulating.

The mom, who did not specify if the conversation was with Vivian or her twin, added that she told her child, "I'm very proud of you."

"I'm proud of myself," the teen added.

Musk and the Canadian author married in 2000 and separated in 2008. Justine previously detailed her relationship, marriage and split from the SpaceX CEO in a 2010 essay published in Marie Claire

Justine was with Musk before he became a billionaire, having met him in college. According to her, their relationship changed as his business ventures continued to thrive.

"I didn't want to be a sideline player in the multimillion-dollar spectacle of my husband's life. I wanted equality. I wanted partnership. I wanted to love and be loved, the way we had before he made all his millions," she wrote.

Justine wrote that they agreed to attend marriage counseling before they called it quits. But she claimed that after three sessions, Musk, who was running two companies at the time, gave her an ultimatum.

"Either we fix this marriage today or I will divorce you tomorrow, by which I understood he meant, 'Our status quo works for me, so it should work for you.' He filed for divorce the next morning. I felt numb, but strangely relieved," she added.

Musk and Justine welcomed their eldest child, Nevada, in 2002, but the baby died 10 weeks later from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The former couple went on to have five more children together.

They welcomed twins Vivian and Griffin, 18, in April 2004. Two years later, they welcomed now-16-year-old triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian. They conceived all five via in vitro fertilization.

Musk also shares two children with ex-girlfriend Grimes — son X AE A-XII, 2, and daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, 6 months.
