The Duke men’s basketball team suffered a 79-78 overtime loss against Florida State Tuesday night, marking their second upset in the last 10 days. Following the loss, the Blue Devils remain one of the favorites to become 2022 national champions.

Duke is ranked sixth in the nation, but only one team is given a better chance to win the NCAA Tournament in head coach Mike Krzyzewski’s farewell season. The Blue Devils have +950 championship odds at FanDuel Sportsbook. That ties them with defending champion Baylor, which also has +950 odds for the title.

No. 1 Gonzaga is the betting favorite with +650 odds. No. 4 Purdue has +1000 championship odds. No. 2 Auburn (+1300), No. 7 Kansas (+1400) and No. 3 Arizona (+1800) are the only other contenders with better than 20/1 title odds.

Florida State held off Duke, despite Paolo Banchero’s 20 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. Banchero has a chance to be the top pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and is a candidate to be named college basketball’s player of the year.

Guard Trevor Keels left Tuesday’s game with a calf injury and didn’t return. It’s uncertain how much time Keels might miss. The freshman is an important player for the Blue Devils, third on the team with 11.9 points per game and second with 3.2 assists per contest.

Ten days before losing to unranked FSU, Duke lost at home to unranked Miami 76-74 as 15-point favorites. The Hurricanes sit atop the ACC standings, 1.5 games ahead of the Blue Devils.

In the 11th week of the regular season, Duke is the only ACC team in the AP Top 25 Poll. The preseason No. 9 team in the country, the Blue Devils took the top spot after beating Gonzaga on Nov. 26 and posting a 7-0 record. One day after being named No. 1, Duke was upset by then-unranked (now. No. 19) Ohio State and hasn’t been atop the poll since that defeat.

Gonzaga might be the only team that has as much talent as Duke. Wendell Moore fills up the stat sheet with averages of 15.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and a team-high 4.6 assists per game while shooting 55.7% from the field. Center Mark Williams could be the second Duke player drafted, ranked fifth in the nation with 3.4 blocks per game.

Duke is the seventh-highest scoring team in the country, averaging 82.8 points per game. The Blue Devils give up 66.0 points per game. Their average scoring margin is 10th in the nation.

Duke didn’t play in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, left out of the March Madness field for the first time in 26 years. The Blue Devils won their last championship in 2015.

Duke's next game is scheduled for Saturday against Syracuse.
