Destiny 2's Austringer hand cannon returns in Season of the Haunted

The Austringer is one of the best hand cannons for dueling in “Destiny 2” at the moment. It might not seem special at first glance, especially when compared to other meta picks, but this weapon does have a few special perk combos that make it stand out from the competition.

Before diving into the gun’s specifics, Austringers can be picked up by opening Opulent Chests around the Derelict Leviathan. Players will have to farm for Opulent Keys first, though, which may take a while. Luckily, the weapon is craftable, so everyone should be able to make their own Austringer eventually.

Zero Flinch Austringer Roll

Now that Resilience and Stability have an effect on the number of flinch players receive, using a loadout that’s rich in both stats can have very noticeable advantages.

Unlike much of the other hand cannons, the Austringer can reach 91 Stability without sacrificing any range with the following perks:

  • Smallbore
  • Ricochet Rounds
  • Enhanced Snapshot/Eye of the Storm
  • Stability masterwork

Granted, this roll will only have an effective range of 30 meters but 91 Stability is nothing to scoff at, especially when partnered with 100 Resilience and Unflinching mods.

The fourth-column perk here can be anything that players want, though Rangefinder and Opening Shot are highly recommended for PvP.

Max Range Duelist Roll

The coveted Opening Shot and Eye of the Storm combo is excellent in the Crucible as it makes almost anyone incredibly consistent throughout every gunfight. The latter buffs range, while the former boosts handling and accuracy as health gets lower.

Combine these with Hammer-Forged Rifling, Ricochet Rounds and a Range masterwork to reach targets up to 35 meters away.

The PvE Workhorse

Hand cannons aren’t typically used in PvE, but the Austringer has a few nice options for those who favor precise and powerful gunplay.

Enhanced Rampage with the Minor Spec mod will grant up to four seconds of greatly increased damage to red-bar enemies, often defeating most targets with a single headshot when the perk is fully stacked. Alternatively, Frenzy will provide a smaller damage boost in exchange for extra Handling and Reload Speed.

Use Armor-Piercing Rounds for extra damage to shields or High-Caliber Rounds to stunlock any enemy that survives the initial headshot.
