New Orleans Pelicans star DeMarcus Cousins has finally broken his silence, four days after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury. Cousins suffered a torn left Achilles tendon during the Pelicans' 115-113 victory over the Houston Rockets on Friday night (Saturday AEDT).

Cousins, who averaged an impressive tally of 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists before going down with the injury, used Instagram to post a heartfelt message to fans and well-wishers on Tuesday (see below).

"No lie this (expletive) sucks! I’ve never experienced an injury of this magnitude in my life, but with that being said nothing I’ve earned has ever come easy for me either! I’ve only gotten it the hard way and I don’t expect things to change for me now. I’ll overcome this as well and continue to prove. I want to thank everyone for all the love, prayers, and positive energy sent my way. You are greatly appreciated! I’m also asking my supporters to join me on this journey back to playing the game I love. See you soon… #TheResurgence."

Typically, players above the age of 25 are left compromised after an Achilles tear. The likes of Isiah Thomas, Kobe Bryant and Chauncey Billups were never the same players after the non-contact injury. However, modern medicine has allowed the likes of Rudy Gay and Wesley Matthews to perform at a high level after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon.

There is a possibility that Cousins will never again suit up for the Pelicans. The four-time All-Star becomes an unrestricted free agent in July and is expected to draw the interest of several suitors, regardless of his injury status. DeMarcus Cousins is set to undergo surgery on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT), following which the Pelicans will announce a timetable for his recovery.
