Complaints over iPhone 4 camera
Users voice displeasure on online forums
The iPhone 4 has encountered more reported problems: users are now describing photos they have taken on the device that are discolored with blue, yellow and green.
Techau.tv, an Australian blog focusing on technology, has noted that the photo problem seems to occur specifically when taking photos indoors with fluorescent lighting. According to the blog, the marred photos "have a blue tint that appears as a circle from the centre of the photo."
The blog continues on to say that "The tint is so bad it renders photos under these conditions effectively useless." The problem seems to be worst on the phone's rear-facing camera, though a less-severe glitch is evident with photos taken on the front-facing camera.
Complaints have arisen on a number of unofficial tech forums devoted to Apple products as well as Apple's official forum for iPhone users. The problem has been reported internationally since before the beginning of August, with posts on Macrumors.com and MacTalk.com.au complaining of unusable photos since the iPhone 4 was first released in the United States.
Anthony Agius of Mactalk says that his iPhone 4 has been affected by the glitch.
Apple Australia has not yet responded to requests for comment on the issue.
The problem, reported on a number of fan forums, comes after a widely reported problem with the antenna for the phone. The design flaw causes the phone to lose signal if the phone is held a certain way, causing problems with the way that it connects to mobile networks.
Mark Papermaster, an executive who oversaw engineering of the latest version of the iPhone, left Apple a week after problems with the antenna began to be reported. The company has attempted to rectify the antenna problem by providing free cases to consumers who have purchased the phone, costing the company a projected $US175 milllion ($200 million) in revenues.
