Ahead of the actual CES event, LG revealed their new office monitors that are designed to maximize a creative professional’s ability to get work done by providing them with an interesting new perspective.

Here’s a look at this new approach to computer monitor design.

The Two-In-One Screen Solution

The LG DualUp Monitor (model 28MQ780) is definitely unique in terms of looks and overall functionality. This 28-inch monitor essentially works as two screens at once, serving the same purpose as a standard dual-monitor setup but with a smaller footprint and a sharper picture quality. It sports a very unusual 16:18 aspect ratio, giving the impression of two monitors being stacked on top of each other.

This design choice has its purpose, however, as LG says that the vertical orientation of the DualUp Monitor is meant to help reduce neck pain induced by constant side-to-side head movements. Since the monitor features only a single screen, it also eliminates any headaches that a vertical dual-monitor setup usually incites such as worries over weight, screen alignment and stand placement.

Speaking of stands, the DualUp Monitor comes with its own Ergo Stand that’s designed to support the monitor to the fullest without hogging up desk space.

The Gritty Details

As a premium office solution, the DualUp Monitor is equipped with the latest tech LG has to offer. The device can display a maximum SDQHD resolution of 2560x2880 with HDR10 support for an incredibly sharp picture quality that’s great for visual artists. Together with the ability to exhibit 300 nits of brightness and a 98% coverage of its DCI-P3 color gamut, the DualUp monitor can allow artists to make those pixel-perfect adjustments that are often required from them.

The main function of the DualUp Monitor lies in its vertical split view function that allows users to essentially view two windows at once without compromising on picture size and quality. This is especially useful for video editors and other lines of work that tend to have multiple objects on-screen at once.

Other features include a USB-C port with 96W of output for charging external devices as well as two stereo speakers equipped with MaxxAudio sound drivers for an optimized listening experience without having to rely on other output devices.

The LG Ultrafine Monitor

Those who want the DualUp Monitor’s clear display plus other features may want to look at the UltraFine instead. Both of these products are essentially the same but the UltraFine ditches the larger monitor size in favor of the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. There are a few notable differences between the DualUp and the UltraFine, however.

The UltraFine comes with LG’s Nano IPS Black panels that can “deliver realistic and nuanced black tones,” as LG puts it. This monitor is also a bit brighter than its larger counterpart thanks to its 400-nit brightness and 2000:1 contrast ratio, as opposed to the DualUp’s 1000:1.
