A painting changes the life of a high schooler who is leading an excellent but rather boring life. The fall season of anime 2021 kickstarts with "Blue Period" which revolves around the life of Yatora Yaguchi.

"Blue Period" is based on the manga of the same name by creator Tsubasa Yamaguchi and follows the life of a perfect high school student. Yatora is blessed with lots of friends and manages to secure good grades in class. Despite the success, he leads a dull life.

One day, Yatora wanders into the art room and a painting catches his attention. The promo trailer of "Blue Period" shows Yatora gazing at the lone painting. Later, the protagonist decides to take up painting and dreams of becoming an artist.

"A manga about the struggles and rewards of a life dedicated to art. The studious Yatora leaves a dry life of study and good manners behind for a new passion: painting. But untethering yourself from all your past expectations is dangerous as well as thrilling…," read the official synopsis of "Blue Period" manga, according to Kodansha.

"Blue Period" anime is directed by Katsuya Asano. Reiko Yoshida is credited as the series composer and scriptwriter. The music of the anime is composed by Ippei Inoue.

Tomoyuki Shitaya is the character designer, while Ken Nakamura and Yuuji Kaneko are the art directors. The anime is produced at Seven Arcs.

The cast of the anime includes Hiromu Mineta as Yatora Yaguchi, Yuki Kazu as Mayu Ōba, Emiri Suyama as Sae Okada, Saori Ōnishi as Hanako Sakuraba, Yuna Nemoto as Shirota, Yumiri Hanamori as Ryuji Ayukawa, Tatsumaru Tachibana as Utashima, Yume Miyamoto as Maki Kuwana, Taishi Murata as Takuro Ishii, Shin'ichirō Kamio as Koigakubo, Mayu Aoyagi as Maru Mori, Miku Hiratsuka as Umino, Masaya Fukunishi as Sumida, Kengo Kawanishi as Haruka Hashida, Ikumi Hasegawa as Shirai, Fumi Hirano as Masako Saeki, Daiki Yamashita as Yotasuke Takahashi and Aoi Koga as Yamamoto.

Viewers in Japan can watch "Blue Period" Episode 1, which is releasing this Saturday, on Netflix Japan. The streaming service has announced the episode will release outside Japan on Oct. 9 on Netflix.
