Bandai Namco Entertainment has announced "My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble," a new free-to-play battle royale game set in the world of the popular manga/anime franchise "My Hero Academia." New gameplay footage, game platforms and mechanics on how to play the game have been revealed, as well.

The official announcement of "My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble" was made at the seventh issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine Monday and shared by Twitter user Atsu. The 24-players battle royale game will be rolled out on various gaming platforms, including PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Closed Beta schedule

The game will have a closed beta scheduled to run from Feb. 2 to 6 in Japan. There is no information as of press time if the closed beta will be available in other regions outside of the country.

The pre-registration for the PS4 closed beta is now open and will end at 18:00 JST or 4 a.m. ET on Jan. 28. The closed beta will feature 12 playable characters.

These are Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, Ochaco Uraraka, Shoto Todoroki, Tsuyu Asui and Cementoss. Players can also play as All Might, Mt. Lady, Tomura Shigaraki, Dabi, Himiko Toga and Mr. Compress during the game's closed beta run.

Gameplay mechanics and trailer

"My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble" is being developed in Unreal Engine and will pit eight teams of three players against each other. Players need to work together as a team to use each of their abilities to overpower other teams.

Skill cards are available in different stages along with specific techniques for specific characters. Interestingly, it looks like one of the focuses of the game is to find cards for teammates so the entire team could improve as a whole.

Release window

Bandai Namco Entertainment has not yet revealed the game's release date or if the game would also launch in other regions outside Japan. Unfortunately, there is no English announcement available just yet as well. However, considering the game publisher's history of introducing various "MHA" games to North America, it is highly likely that fans in North America, Europe and other regions will also be able to play the game very soon.
