Austar, the subscription television provider, launches its own download service called the Austar Anywhere. The release comes eight months after Foxtel subscribers were afforded the same privilege with the use of Microsoft Windows.

Unlike the Foxtel Download Player, which has been controversial since its release, Austar Anywhere is a browser-based platform. Aside from the service's online TV streaming capabilities, which contain an array of content such as TV shows and movie, the Austar Anywhere also allows for offline viewing.

The service is compatible with both Mac and Windows. However, the iPad would be shut out of the service due to the fact that the Web site runs on Adobe Flash.

Austar AnyWhere is free to all Austar subscribers. Nonetheless, there are bandwidth concerns for users with a smaller cap. But since operators increase quotas at a rapid rate, this would be less of an inconvenience over time.
