Apple's flagship tablet, the iPad, will be sold through another American retailer in addition to the company's own stores. Target will join Best Buy as one of two non-Apple stores that sell the tablet device.

The announcement sees Apple further diversifying the places where its products will be made available for purchase. Target will be selling the same six models of the gadget at the same prices that you'd find in an Apple store.

However, there are provisions as to how you can actually purchase the device through Target. First, Target does not offer the iPad in its retail Web site. The iPads must be purchased and picked up in the store itself. However, a number of iPad accessories are only available through Target.com instead of Target stores.

The retailer aims to boost its holiday sales in the US through the iPad. The gadget has been met with high demand; estimates have sales for the device at around 3.27 million units for the first three months of its release.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Target electronics team member Chetna Parikh said, "We hope to sell a lot more later this week, once people are more aware that we carry it."

Analysts forecast iPad sales to increase to 21 million units by 2011.
