Amazon is setting shop on the Apple iPad. The retailer has launched Windowshop, its new app for the tablet PC.

In a statement, Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder and chief executive said, "Amazon Windowshop is a top-to-bottom rewrite of Amazon.com - designed and built without compromise just for iPad... Same selection, same low prices, same fast delivery, same benefits of your Amazon Prime membership - just a completely new, fluid interface designed specifically for lean-back, touch screen tablets."

The app contains the same content as Amazon's Web site. The service uses a multi-touch interface that allows users to scroll through 40 categories.

The app allows users to look through audio and video previews for specific items. The Windowshop app only requires one touch to perform tasks such as adding items to shopping carts and purchasing items.

The Windowshop app is available free of charge in the App Store.
