Will the replacement for Nexus 6 turn out better – in terms of design, specs and features – than its immediate predecessor considering LG is rumoured to again build the Nexus 2015 phone? The best clue available on how the next Nexus will look and behave is the LG G4, purported as the base-model for the vanilla Android flagship.

But even the final LG G4 cut remains a mystery and fans resort to rumours, leaked specs and phone concepts to piece together the G4 details. Phone Arena offered glimpses, in five unique renders, of what it described as different LG G4 flavours (images viewable here) that share bits of specs and features.

The visualisations may not end up as the official LG G4 but they open a window of what fans want to see or expect of the Android phone. And if indeed LG will take charge of Google’s Nexus 2015 project then some of the ideas pitched might become part of the next Nexus smartphone.

Flexible take

Bendable and curved screen will soon become a smartphone standard as Samsung showed that the material, apart from adding durability and flexibility to a device, can exponentially increase a phone’s sex appeal. Analysts are convinced that the Galaxy S6 Edge will prove this point in a big way and vendor will happily take the cue.

Ivo Maric has envisioned the G4 with a premium and metal build. The flexed profile design is included for aesthetic and practical purposes – the latter mostly to support the device when resting on a surface.

Media player

Another concept from Jermaine Smit pictured the G4 as a media playback tool. One of the core features is a front-facing stereo speaker that HTC had popularised with its HTC One flagship series.

But the Smit-imagined LG G4 is far from being the premium phone that many hope it would be. The rear cover is plastic though Phone Arena noted that this is in line with recent reports that the G4 will skip the metal cover, which LG will instead use with the LG G4 Note.

All-screen

LG gained attention with its design language that renders the device virtual free of bezels on four sides of the screen. Giztimes, the render creator, is obviously a fan of super-slim bezels on smartphone that gives users super-stretched display but minus the big footprint.

The concept in subject has a 5.5-inch screen but is smaller than the iPhone 6 Plus, which has the same screen size. Basing on LG’s history, this render might hit the jackpot and become the actual LG G4 and the next Nexus phone in the process.

Xperia clone

Fuse the LG G3 basic design and that of the Xperia Z3 – the end-result is sort of a hybrid but still gorgeous phone. The render, however, has too few new ideas to present like front-speaker is old and rear-located volume rocker is ancient. This concept from an unnamed provider will become the LG G4, that is if LG will decide to simply repackage the LG G3 and pass it off as a new device.

Road to Nexus

Jermaine Smit has a second take on the LG G4 and it comes very close as a Nexus handset. The rear camera resembles that of the Motorola-made Nexus 6 and the build reminds one of the Nexus 5. Whether deliberate or not, this Smit G4 concept is cooked up for the LG brand and the Nexus followers as well.

The LG G4 release date is pegged anytime in the second quarter of 2015. If it is picked by Google to become the repurposed Nexus smartphone this year, it will make a second landing in time for the holiday quarter.
