A leaked police memo has revealed that 10 Islamic State militants from Syria have entered Thailand in October with the intent to target Russian nationals in the country. The top secret and urgent information was received by Thailand authorities from the Russian Federal Security Service.

According to Bangkok-based news agency Khaosod, four of the suspects have reportedly travelled to Pattaya, two of them to Bangkok, two to Phuket, while the whereabouts of the other two are still unknown. The exact whereabouts and the identities of the suspects have not been mentioned in the memo.

The memo has warned Thai authorities to increase security in places that are visited frequently by Russian tourists as well as tourists from other countries that have taken part in recent airstrikes against the Islamic States in Syria, including Australia, U.S. and the U.K.

A number of terror attacks in response to the airstrikes against the ISIS establishments have taken place over the last few months, including the Paris attacks that claimed 130 lives and the downing of the Russian passenger jet that killed all the 224 people on board.

Khaleej Times reported that the Special Branch of Thailand that deals with security issues has circulated the document to other police units.

"The document is real. We received it from Special Branch," said one of the police officers who wished to remain anonymous. "I have to deal with this issue now. The original communication was by word of mouth between Russian and Thai police. I don't know how the document leaked."

The warnings are likely to affect Thailand’s tourism as it enters its peak season following the August 17 bombings that killed 20 and injured 130 people.
