Zoe Saldana revealed that her husband Marco Perego wants to take her last name. However, the announcement invited criticism, and Saldana was surprised. Also, she stated the lesson her children should learn from this act of Perego.

Saldana talked to ETonline and said that she is happy that people are talking about it. “For men to be discriminated and picked on for wanting to take on their partner's name, for their masculinity to be put into question, I think it's disgusting,” Saldana said. The actress also said that she hopes her children Bowie and Cy learn that their father is a great man and she is an “even better mom.”

Earlier, after the criticism started to pour in regarding Perego taking her last name, Saldana took to Facebook and shared her views. The post addressed to men stated that their legacy will not be harmed if they take their partner’s surname. She stated that she felt proud that Perego decided to take her last name and she keeps his.

She admitted that she shared her hesitation with her husband about this decision. However, he encouraged her and asked what is she so afraid of.

Saldana wrote that men will not “cease to exist” if they take their partner’s surname. She added that they will be remembered for the change they stood by. She wrote that her boys will admire and respect their father more. She urged that men should think outside the box or remove the box. Saldana wants men to redefine masculinity. “I hope that the “buzz” behind this topic isn’t just for gossip — but an inspiration for us all to look within and see what is truly important.”

Saldana’s latest movie titled “Infinitely Polar Bear,” about a manic-depressive father, who strives to win back his wife, is in theatres now. Share your thoughts in the section below. Stay tuned for more updates.
