Zayn Malik is bringing his true-to-life experience with One Direction on the set of his first television venture, NBC’s new boy band drama titled “Boys.”

Malik, who left the boy band One Direction in 2015 to launch a solo career, is co-producing “Boys,” NBC’s newest music-heavy drama that follows the formation of a successful boy band and the pressure that comes with the success.

Universal Television will produce the dram in association with Wolf Films. Meanwhile, First Access, which represents Malik, will take care of talent and brand development and representation of recording artists and songwriters involved in the production.

“Dick Wolf is a legend and the opportunity to work with him and NBC to create a compelling drama series is awesome," Malik said.

Meanwhile, NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said Malik brings an authentic point to the project. Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson started as an English-Irish pop boy band based in London. One Direction rose to fame after competing at the British reality talent show “The X Factor” in 2010.

“Zayn certainly brings an authentic point of view to this world where kids are catapulted into fame at a dizzying speed,” Salke said.

“On top of our excitement around the creative ideas being discussed, we have a lot of respect for the musical and digital ambitions behind the project.”

Since leaving One Direction, Malik has released a solo album “Mind of Mine” in March, about the same time the 23-year-old singer-songwriter confirmed his relationship with American model Gigi Hadid.

Aside from “Boys,” Wolf is reportedly producing NBC’s New York City-set FBI drama. The “Law & Order” producer is also behind the NBC scripted dramas “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D., and “Chicago Med.”
