One Direction's Zayn Malik and Perrie Edwards of Little Mix are engaged. The news sparked an explosion of mixed reactions from 1D's fans across social media sites, particularly Twitter and Tumblr.

"Yes, the pair of 20-year-old British pop music sensations are tying the knot!" Perez Hilton blogs of the confirmed news. Mirror.co.uk reported Zayn Malik's future mum-in-law has given the engagement her full approval. Meanwhile, E! Online teased fans about Perrie Edwards' ring on Twitter.

"They got engaged on Sunday and it's absolutely lovely. It's wonderful because Zayn is absolutely gorgeous and Perrie loves him to pieces," Perrie's mum was quoted on Perez Hilton's blog.

As of this posting, Zayn Malik's most recent tweet says this:

Before the engagement news was confirmed, Perrie and Zayn have already turned the rumour mill when showbiz sleuths spotted the Little Mix artist wearing a huge rock on it. Perrie's diamond ring was first seen publicly when she attended the "This is Us" premiere. On Twitter, there were several tweets about Perrie's X-Factor audition just "to get an iPhone." One of the variations says, "auditioned to get an iphone / won the x factor / ended up engaged to zayn malik / perrie teach me your ways."
