A new "Yu-Gi-Oh!" anime series is soon to set foot on the anime television franchise world. The new series is titled “Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS.” This will be the sixth installment of the aforementioned anime that will be televised.

On Feb. 13, Shueisha revealed new visual arts that highlights the upcoming series. The new franchise is set to premiere on Tokyo TV by spring of this year. This was according to a report from Weekly Shonen Jump magazine through Anime News Network.

What sets the new “Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS” anime apart from previous franchises is that it will be showcasing a new type of battle duel. The new battle system will introduce a Virtual Reality (VR) setup where the characters will compete in.

To keep up with this new battle system, the characters will also be using state of the art, high-tech equipments to make the battlefield into a VR stadium. Participants of the battle can freely transform from their usual outfit and attire to a totally different look once they enter the VR field.

The main character of the series is named Yusaku Fujiki. He is an average school boy who detests standing out from the crowd, especially in his school. As he ventures into the dueling world of “Yu-Gi-Oh!” he starts to interact with other people and overcome his anti-social problems.

The theme for this series is “Let’s take one step forward and try it!” Since the series’ main protagonist has trouble with interacting and blending in with other people, this looks like a good theme for the story to follow. Fans can watch how Yusaku grows to become more open to meet new friends and partakes in this journey together with them.

Viewers will usually see Yusaku in his school uniform or his usual clothes during most parts of each episode. But once he steps in the virtual reality field, his outfit is transformed to a black jumpsuit. His hair color will also change from his usual blue, purple and pink shade to a yellow, light violet and fuchsia hue. To finish off his transformation, he will be riding on a levitating surfboard-like hovercraft.

The ace monster that will accompany him in his battles is called Decode Talker. This monster’s weapon of choice is a giant sword. As of the moment, little is known of this card monster and his abilities. All that is known is that he is one of the major cards included in Yusaku’s deck.

“Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS” is the fifth main manga spinoff series of the franchise. It was first announced at Shueisha's Jump Festa event on Dec. 17, 2016 and is now slowly making its way to becoming a full anime television series.
