Steve Burton is leaving “The Young & The Restless” after four years of playing the role of Dylan McAvoy. The actor posted a 3-part announcement on Twitter, saying he will move on after his contract ends in December.

Why is Steve Burton leaving ‘Y&R’?

“It feels right to move on now,” Burton said in a tweet on Friday, Oct. 6. Some fans who replied to his tweet wondered whether Burton would be coming back to “General Hospital,” where he played Jason Morgan for many years before joining “The Young & The Restless.”

There are no updates yet on where Burton is headed next, but fans are only wishing the best for the actor. Updates are expected regarding Burton’s exit. How will the showrunners end McAvoy’s screen time on the soap opera?

There are several fans on Burton’s Twitter feed, asking him to come back to “General Hospital.” Twitter user @KellyForman said:

“He was my first very favorite character and no one can play stonecold like the OG! Time to come home.”

Y&R executive producer Mal Young also replied to one of Burton’s tweets, saying Burton is “a gentleman and a scholar.”

In his series of tweets, Burton lauded the Y&R cast and crew and thanked CBS Daytime “for the great ride.” Read the actor’s announcement below:
